Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at the fourth corner soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before spinning across the run-off area, and was fortunate to avoid just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the session, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner approaching the last turn on to the pit straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th place, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
