"I tell my centre-back 'I'm not hanging back' and that I'm just going to keep running.

"The running is what I'm looking for. It's good fun."

In addition to the forward's six goals on his first game, Ireland has netted eight in 3 appearances for Wythenshawe, while Boyd scored five on his debut match and Lescott, a centre-half by position, notched a hat-trick in one match as a striker.

One opponent, thirty-eight, who plays on the wing for the opposition, came up against ex- Latics defender Maynor Figueroa on Sunday - and had to explain his nine-year-old son who Heskey was.

"I felt I was a little awestruck facing Figueroa to be honest.

"We competed well for a solid 20 minutes but then we had a player dismissed and it was tough.

"We literally have not ceased talking about it - I was phoning my mother and sibling on the journey home.

"They were all really nice, shaking our hands after the game - it was like facing a bunch of normal guys.

"Now we can't wait for the second fixture."

The manager manages the opposition veterans team, who secured the Premier Division title the previous campaign, along with Paul Maguire.

"Our team went 1-0 up and had a
